An unattended cooking fire caused damages to apartment in southwest Minot early
Monday morning. One person was treated and transported by Trinity First Response
Ground for smoke inhalation. No one else was injured during the incident.
Fire units were dispatched to the Chateau Apartments at 1705 2
nd Ave SW at 2 a.m.
for a report of a stove on fire. Dispatch also advised that the fire had spread to the
cabinets around the stove.
Fire crews arrived on scene and found smoke emitting from a second floor balcony
door. Crews immediately entered the structure which had zero visibility, and started
performing fire suppression and search operations.
The fire was extinguished and the apartment was cleared of all potential victims.
Cooking fires are the leading cause of fires in the United States, and are also one
of the leading causes of fire-related deaths. Always keep a lid near by when cooking
with the stove. The lid can used to smother the flames by sliding it over the pan
and turning off the burner. Always cook with caution and never use the stove/stove
top if you are sleepy or have consumed excessive amounts of alcohol.
