Jason Sorenson to Take Duties

The City of Minot has restructured the top leadership positions of its largest
department.
The Minot City Council has approved leadership changes to the Public Works
Department, which previously operated under a Public Works Director and an
Assistant Public Works Director. The Council approved changing that format to two
equal positions: A Public Works Director and a Utilities Director who will each be
responsible for specific groups within the Public Works Department.
Jason Sorenson, who was Assistant Public Works Director, has been elevated to the
Utilities Director position. In his new role, Sorenson will be in charge of water,
sewer, sanitation, landfill, and the water treatment plant. The Northwest Area
Water Supply project is also under Sorenson’s supervision.
“I’ve been seeking a position with more leadership opportunities, and this change
elevates me to a department head. I’m looking forward to focusing on the
responsibilities of my new position,” Sorenson said. “As the Assistant Public Works
Director, I handled a lot of the day-to-day things. Now, I’ll do the day-to-day things
but I’ll also be the overall decision-maker for these five departments. I’ll have more
to do, but with fewer departments.”
Sorenson is also now serving as interim Public Works Director, following the
retirement of Dan Jonasson. The Public Works Director is in charge of streets, storm
sewer, property maintenance, transit, the shop, Rosehill Cemetery, and flood
infrastructure construction and maintenance
