BISMARCK – A bill to require homeowners associations to allow electric vehicle charging stations passed the North Dakota State House for a second time Monday.
House Bill 1310 would void restrictions from condo associations on homeowners’ ability to install the infrastructure needed to support their own electric vehicles.
“The version we have here, we feel, has good balance,” said the sponsor of the bill, Rep. Josh Boschee, D-Dis. 44, Fargo. “We ask the chamber to support the bill.”
Boschee said in a previous interview that some people in downtown Fargo have attempted to install charging stations but ran into problems with their association.
“We know more and more people are going to be buying electric vehicles,” Boschee told The Dakotan. “Some people may not like that, but it’s their home, they should be able to do whatever they want.”
HB1310, along with its amendments, have been agreed upon by a conference committee of both House and Senate members. The bill passed the House Monday by a vote of 81 to 11 and will be sent to the Senate.
