New Highway Patrol Commander Named

Will Serve Northwest District 

NARRATIVE: Colonel Brandon Solberg announces the promotion and reassignment of Sgt. Adrian Martinez, who has been promoted to Lieutenant and will serve as the Northwest Regional Commander. 

 Martinez joined the North Dakota Highway Patrol in July 2011. He attended the Highway Patrol Academy, graduating December 22, 2011. Martinez was initially stationed in Grafton as a traffic enforcement trooper until he transferred to Grand Forks in April 2014, where he served as a motor carrier enforcement trooper. In December 2015, he was assigned as a traffic enforcement trooper in Grand Forks. Martinez briefly left the agency, returning as a motor carrier enforcement trooper stationed in Grand Forks in November 2017. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant on August 17, 2020 and was stationed in Williston.  

On September 1, 2021, he accepted a transfer to Bismarck to serve as a training sergeant at the Law Enforcement Training Academy.  

Martinez earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice, from Regis University in May 2009; a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in December 2010; and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Criminal Justice from the University of North Dakota in August 2020.  

Martinez was promoted at a ceremony in Bismarck and will began his duties in the Northwest region January 20.
