MINOT – Though Black Friday may not be the only day to get good deals during the Christmas season, that day and week brought hundreds of shoppers to Dakota Square Mall.
Mikalah Auer, marketing director, said Black Friday numbers have trended very strong for the mall over the years.
“Black Friday is always our biggest shopping day of the year and this year was no different,” said Auer.
Auer has noticed that retailers in the mall have lengthened their sales to both the week before and weekend after Black Friday.
“It just allows people to do more shopping throughout the week if they can’t make it on the actual day,” said Auer. “But we still see a lot of that concentrated on Black Friday.”
Businesses in the mall saw an uptick in sales from years past and, according to Auer, some saw record breaking sales.
“We’re still seeing people come out and shop on that specific day,” said Auer. “That’s a lot of times the one day people want to get their Christmas shopping done, so it’s something that has been growing and getting bigger and bigger every year.”
The mall has had a lot of activity in the last year with Scheels recently renovating, Five Below opening next to Ross Dress For Less, and Crumble Cookies opening in the last two weeks.
“Everybody was just happy to be out shopping and it was a really good energy the whole day,” said Auer.
