NARRATIVE: A school bus belonging to Lewis and Clark School District carrying seven juvenile students was traveling northbound on 209th St NW in Ward County. The bus stopped at the intersection with Highway 52 before continuing through the intersection. The bus failed to yield to oncoming traffic and was struck by a Ford Edge that was traveling westbound on Highway 52.
All students on the bus were uninjured. Carmie and Helen Nelson sustained serious injuries and were transported via ambulance to Trinity Health in Minot. On 11/18/2022 Carmie Nelson succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash at Trinity Health-Minot.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
