MINOT—Trinity Health will host a free symposium on hospice care October 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Sleep Inn & Suites.

The symposium is open to community members and healthcare professionals or anyone interested in hospice care. Presentations by national and local health experts will be featured, along with a complementary meal.

Kurt Kazanowski, a hospice consultant, speaker and author, will present “Giving the Gift of Hospice,” a talk focusing on the value of hospice care based on his work as a hospice professional and the experience caring for his own parents as they aged and died.

Jeffrey Verhey, MD, medical director of Trinity’s hospice program, will introduce the hospice team and discuss the importance of talking to loved ones early about end-of-life care.

Other topics include advanced care planning documents and how to implement them, societal issues surrounding death and dying, and misconceptions about hospice. The event will conclude with a panel discussion with several family members who have utilized hospice services.

The event is sponsored by Trinity Health and Trinity Health Foundation with support from the Willie and Ruth Bodien Endowment. Registration is required by logging on to foundation.trinityhealth.org. For more information, call Trinity’s Community Education Department at 701-857-5099.
