Minot – Independence seemed worth celebrating at a picnic in Minot recently.
The picnic was put on by the service agency Independence Inc. and set up in its building’s parking lot Tuesday.
Scott Burlingame, executive director of Independence Inc., said this is the 11th annual picnic that is a get together of the community and charitable organizations to celebrate independence.
“It’s a celebration of all the people with disabilities who have achieved their dreams in the last year, all the community organizations that we’ve worked with and helped us achieve those goals, and it’s just an opportunity to get together and have fun,” said Burlingame.
With Fun on a Bun Hot Dog Stand donating its time, Cloverdale Foods donating hot dogs, Market Place Foods donating buns, and the community bringing the celebration, the event turned into a success. The ice cream truck The Scoop was also there to add dessert to the mix.
“I always joke, the hot dogs are free and the ice cream’s extra,” said Burlingame.
The people attending were encouraged to bring bedding, towels, kitchen supplies and other necessities to donate to those in need.
“We’ve done it a couple different ways,” said Burlingame. “We’ve done it in the park. This is our second year doing it here. We did a drive through during COVID.”
