MINOT — One of the vendors at iMagicon this weekend is using his skills to customize wheelchairs.
William Hammond, from Texas, makes custom flags, dice bags, stickers, storage boxes, and more.
“This is all digital work that I cut out on a vinyl printer,” Hammond explained. “Either heat-pressed on, or actually just hand printed on.”
Hammond says his friend in Colorado makes wheelchairs.
“A good friend, I’ve decorated almost every one of his wheelchairs,” said Hammond. “Every little spoke, the back of it, even like the little motorized wheelchair portion of it, I put custom stickers on it.”
Hammond explained how he got started doing it, “[My friend] was wondering if I could do it that small, and I was like, ‘Hold my beer, that’s a challenge accepted.’”
Hammond has had his business for seven years, going to Comic Con events such as iMagicon and selling his art, and he has been decorating wheelchairs for about two years, having done about two or three wheelchairs a year.
“To see them have a bad day to smiling and glowing just makes my heart melt,” Hammond expressed.
