MINOT — Ward County Commissioners approved changes to the Ward County Zoning and Ordinance document Tuesday morning to eliminate right-of-way dedications.
The changes will go on the ballot in June for Ward County residents to decide whether they will be added to the county’s zoning and ordinance laws.
“It has been a long hall… and I didn’t get involved in this until 2017,” explained Commissioner John Pietsch.
Article 24, section 1, section 4 A (2,12), and section 4 F (1.e) were amended to do away with right-of-way dedications.
According to the county’s Home Rule Charter, commissioners have to power suspend the current zoning ordinance rules regarding right-of-way dedication. However, the commissioners voted to amend the current ordinances to provide an extra layer of protection for the welfare of Ward County residents.
The next step is for the board of commissioners to form the language of the amendment into a resolution for the ballot in June.
