MANDAN — The North Dakota Highway Patrol says two people were seriously injured when a vehicle collided with a semi on Interstate 94 late Friday afternoon.
According to the NDHP, the semi driver, Hashi Shire, 37, Richfield, Minn., was traveling along I-94 about 15 miles west of Mandan and was pulling double box-trailers. The pickup driver, Scott Walden, 46, Missoula, Mont., was traveling in the opposite direction and was pulling a 5th-wheel trailer loaded with a pickup. Road conditions in the area were icy with freezing rain/drizzle. Shire lost control, crossed the median, and entered the westbound lane, colliding with the pickup.
Walden and his passenger were transported by ambulance to Sanford Hospital in Bismarck. Shire was transported by ambulance to CHI St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck. His passenger was not injured.
Traffic along westbound Interstate 94 in the area was reduced to one lane for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene.
This crash remains under investigation.
