What happens next?

MINOT–Now that voters have given approval to the Minot Public Schools' (MPS) Realignment Project, what is the next step?

“We’ve got to move on to start taking this schematic design into the final product of getting ready to move dirt and get the ball rolling,” stated MPS Superintendent Mark Vollmer.

Multiple facilities including the donated Cognizant building, Magic City Campus, and Central Campus, will now need undergo remodeling and repurposing, since voters gave the greenlight to all three measures in the school bond [breakdown of measures].

Minot City Mayor Shaun Sipma said he was ecstatic to hear that the bond passed, “This will be great for the children and our community… Part of seeing society flourish is how we invest in our kids.” He said he was impressed that the bond had “phenomenal support” from the majority of those who did vote on the issue.

Some other Minot residents have expressed concerns that there was not enough exposure on the bond election. MPS school board member Miranda Schuler countered that by saying she thought that the public had plenty of notice given that Vollmer gave more than 80 presentations on the project and that the information has always been available to the public.

The next school board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 9, at 4:00 p.m. in the administrative building on the west side of Magic City Campus [copy of the agenda here]. For more information and updates on the school bond issue, follow The Dakotan and check the MPS website.
