This is Ag Issues with Neil Roberts.

Neil Roberts:
It's week one of Ag Issues. Join us the next 20 weeks right here as we discuss agronomy, among other topics. Joining us again for week one is Dr. Shana Forester of NDSU's North Central Research Center. And Shana, your center's a key piece to a lot of pieces the industry agriculture footprint across the state. How does it all work?

Shana Forester:
Thank you, Neil and Ag Issues for having me back to kick off the 2022 season as we move into the new growing season. We at the research extension center will continue to provide unbiased scientific agronomic information to your listeners. We've had a few changes in personnel at the research center in Minot not the last few years, although our main missions remain the same We grow and sell foundation grade seed to farmers, and we conduct research in the areas of wheat science, agronomy, grapes and pulse crops.

Shana Forester:
We also have a few extension specialists in the areas of cropping systems, crop protection and forage crop production.

Neil Roberts:
All right, good stuff, Shane. And they will talk more on the role of the county agent when we come back.

Dr. Shana Forester with us on week one of the Ag Issues and shaping up the role of the county agent is a big one. Tell us about it.

Shana Forester:
And issue extension utilizes a county based model for county agents and that we have an agent, at least one agent in all counties of North Dakota County. Agents are great resource for people of North Dakota, not only in agriculture, but many other areas, and provide a true boots on the ground to allow for information gathering. We can also quickly pivot when needed.

Shana Forester:
If you do not know your county agent, I would invite you to reach out to them as they can help in many areas and provide you with that unbiased scientific information.

Neil Roberts:
