BENSON COUNTY — The North Dakota Highway Patrol says five people were injured in consecutive crashes Friday afternoon on Highway 57 about five and a half miles south of Devils Lake.
According to the NDHP, a Ford Explorer spun out on the Highway 57 bridge spanning the waters of Devils Lake and stalled shortly before 4 p.m. A good samaritan saw the stalled motorist and stopped to assist. Another six vehicles ended up colliding with the stopped vehicles.
Five people were transported to CHI Saint Alexius Hospital in Devils Lake for minor injuries sustained in the crashes. All were treated and released the same day.
Highway 57 was closed to traffic for approximately 2 ½ hours for crash scene investigation and clean-up.
Conditions at the time were icy with blowing snow, reducing visibility.
The crashes remain under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
