Minot-Monday's city council meeting included 3 proclamations for the city, with one holding a special place in our heart at The Dakotan. Our late friend Leif Snyder was honored with a special proclamation deeming his birthday April 17, Leif Snyder Appreciation day. Leif passed away last month at 51 due to complications from Type 1 Diabetes. Leif was one of Minot's most engaged citizens and his memory continues to live on with those who knew him.
The proclamation drove home Leif's community impact, stating in part, "Leif challenged himself and others to stay involved in the Minot community, including holding local government entities accountable, and creating and maintaining relationships with residents and local officials even if they have different viewpoints than yours."
Close friends Lisa Hermosillo and Corey Long, among others, were in attendance in his memory, sitting front row as Leif always did. Hermosillo spoke before the council thanking all of those for assisting in the process, their friendships with Leif, and said "...this proclamation mirrored him perfectly and I hope we all take things from that going forward and how we are active in our community."
