City of Minot release

A rapidly moving grass fire damaged three structures in southeast Minot on Sunday
afternoon.
Minot Fire Department units were dispatched around 5:45 p.m. to the area of Soo
Street and Valley Street for a report of a grass fire rapidly moving towards multiple
structures.
Once on scene, fire crews found a large grass fire behind the property of 1118
Valley Street. The fire was moving quickly and had already involved multiple
structures. Fire crews deployed hand-held lines to protect two garages and one
residential home. All three structures suffered minimal damage in the incident. No
injuries were reported.
The Fire Department’s investigation concluded the grass fire was caused by embers
from a nearby recreational fire.
Incidents like these highlight the importance of using extreme caution when
enjoying a recreational fire. Please follow the City of Minot’s Recreational Fire
Guidelines found on the City website at
https://www.minotnd.gov/175/Recreational-Fire-Guidelines.
