Damage Extensive

A fire severely damaged a home in southeast Minot. Minot Fire Department units responded to 4600 16th Avenue SE at approximately 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The first firefighters on the scene found heavy smoke coming from the structure, and made entry into the home to find the location of the fire. The large amount of materials inside the home limited firefighters’ access to areas of the structure. Fire conditions worsened, and crews evacuated the home to battle the fire from a defensive posture.

After reducing the fire from outside, crews re-entered the home and extinguished the remainder of the fire. The fire caused extensive damage throughout the home. No injuries were reported in the incident, but several pets died in the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The homeowner safely evacuated the home after she was alerted to the fire by smoke detectors. The detectors were installed in the home in October 2021 by the Minot Fire Department as part of the American Red Cross’s Home Fire Campaign, a collaborative program that provides and installs free smoke alarms in homes that don’t have them.
