MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minot State men's basketball team got a 43-point showing from the bench, but fell 84-63 to the Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons on the road Thursday in NSIC play.
The Beavers (3-3 overall, 0-2 NSIC) had two players score in double figures, led by Michael Jok who had 13 points. Caleb Van De Griend tacked on 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks off the bench, and Jalen Cook added nine points.
Coach’s Comments
“MSU Moorhead came out ready to compete and we didn’t respond to that intensity the first few minutes of the game,” Minot State coach Matt Murken said. “That’s my job as a coach; have our guys ready to play and I didn’t do that tonight. We are a young team that will respond and continue to improve.”
How It Happened
Minot State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 51-26 heading into halftime.
Minnesota State Moorhead kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 57-30 advantage before Minot State went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Jok's three, to shrink the deficit to 57-38 with 14:50 to go in the contest. Minnesota State Moorhead responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 84-63. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 37 points in the lane.
