MINOT — The City of Minot will celebrate National Public Works week from May 15-21, including a special open house at the Public Works building.
The open house is scheduled for May 18 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Public Works building located at 1025 31st St. SE. The department’s various pieces of large and small equipment will be on display and employees will be available to answer questions from the public. Two tours will take visitors to the Broadway Pump Station, the Water Treatment Plant, and a sanitary lift station. Bus tours will begin at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Tours will begin and end at Public Works.
Free hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be served while supplies last. A plow blade will be available for children to draw on, and coloring books, comic books, and other prizes will be given away. Two grand prize winners will be drawn from the children in attendance, with the winners getting a ride to school in a City sanitation truck or a street sweeper.
“This is a great opportunity for our employees to share with the public the different things we do on a daily basis, from snow removal to street repairs to producing the water our community uses every day,” Public Works Director Dan Jonasson said. “I want to thank all the vendors who contributed door prizes and other items to help make this day a success.”
The American Public Works Association has sponsored National Public Works week since 1960 to educate the public on the importance of public works to their daily lives, including planning, building, managing, and operating the heart of their local communities to improve everyday quality of life.
