MINOT — Senator John Hoeven, R-N.D., and Rick Becker, Bismarck, each spoke to a gathering of District 3 republicans during an organizational meeting here this past weekend.
Hoeven has been serving in the Senate since 2011. Prior to that he had a 10-year run as governor. He is seeking a third, six-year term in the November general election.
Becker, R-Dis. 7, a member of the ND House of Representatives since 2013, earlier announced his resignation to pursue challenging Hoeven for the party nod for U.S. Senate.
In his remarks at the Dis. 3 organizational meeting, Becker touted his staunch conservative viewpoints, including support for term limits for all members of Congress. Hoeven highlighted several agencies and organizations that have applauded his work in Congress. He named support for law enforcement and continuation of building the southern border wall among the issues he favors strongly.
Legislators from Dis. 3 were also introduced at the meeting. They are Sen. Oley Larson-R, Minot, Rep. Jeff Hoverson-R, Minot, and Rep. Bob Paulson-R, Minot.
The primary action taken at the meeting was the nomination and selection of 51 delegates to attend the state Republican endorsing convention April 1-2 in Bismarck. Amber Vibeto, Minot, Dis. 3 chair, received an automatic delegate selection to bring to total delegate count to 52. Six alternates were also chosen as replacements in the event any of the 51 elected delegates cannot attend the state convention.
