The Dakotan: This is Ag Issues with Neil Roberts. Neil Roberts: Welcome to another edition of Ah Issues. Our guest today is NDSU Crop Protection Specialist T.J. Prochaska from the North Central Research Extension Center. And T.J., today we're going to talk the IPM scouting program. Of course, that acronym stands for Integrated Pest Management. And now is the time this kicks into full swing, I guess. Right. And tell us more about it. TJ Prochaska: That's absolutely right. Each of our areas of the state will actually have their own different scouts representative of their area. This is normally the time we get out into the fields and start scouting for different insect problems that might be arising. Any possible diseases that might be arising of course, much in North Dakota dealing with a little bit of moisture issues this year. But you'll begin to see some of these scouts roaming area fields across the state in the next week. Neil Roberts: All right. Good stuff. A lot more on the IPM program when we come back. And T.J., there are four crops you want to touch on today, which were we talking. TJ Prochaska: Right when we think about our IPM scouting program, we have the four crops that we really focus. Much of our surveying or scouting on this should include wheat, barley, soybean and sunflower. Throughout the year, you'll be able to keep up to date on what our scouts are finding through the results being published in DSU Extension Crop and Pest Report for the north central part of the state Of course, that minor area kind of being the center of that area. We estimate about 20 to 25% of the planting done at this time. For this area, we'll have to scout Alexis, hold here and Riley Racine. That will help us keep up to date with the different plant diseases and insects being found in these four crops. Neil Roberts: All right. Good stuff as always, T.J. Thanks for that.
