North Dakota- Republican Julie Fedorchak has won election to the U.S. House of Representatives becoming the States first female Congressional delegate, defeating Democrat challenger Trygve Hammer by a margin of about 69 to 31.
Fedorchak, 56, A Williston native and UND graduate, has recently served as Public Service Commissioner since first appointed to the position in 2012. She has been involved in state party politics since serving as Governor Ed Schaeffer's Communication Director in the late 1990's, and will now take the leap to the federal level.
Hammer, a native of Velva ran for the Public Service Commission himself 2 years ago, and announced his bid for the U.S. House in January of 2023. Despite Republicans holding the states lone seat since 2010, Hammer was unable to come close to shifting the balance of power in the state.
Fedorchak now looks ahead to a closely divided U.S. House that will likely be a narrow majority for whichever party ends up gaining the Speakership. She will have big shoes to fill with both of her predecessors winning their respective bids to higher office in Senator Kevin Cramer, and now Governor-elect Kelly Armstrong.
