Road Conditions: Dry  

Weather Conditions: Clear, sunny  

Crash Involvement: Train vs SUV  

Type of Crash: Right angle  

Agencies Involved: NDHP, Mountrail County Sheriff’s Office, Tioga Ambulance, Tioga Fire Department  

Vehicle No. 1: 2016 Chevrolet Suburban  

Driver No. 1: Male, 14 years old, White Earth, ND, Fatality  

Restraints: In Use  

Charges: None  

NARRATIVE: A 2016 Chevy Suburban was traveling westbound on 66th St NW in White Earth and approached a railroad crossing marked with stop signs. The Suburban failed to yield at the intersection. The suburban proceeded through the intersection when a BNSF train was westbound approaching the same crossing. The train struck the SUV on its driver’s side, pushed it down the tracks, and spun the SUV counter clockwise before the SUV came to final rest on the north side of the tracks. The driver of the SUV, a 14 year old juvenile male, was pronounced deceased on scene.  

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
