Bismarck – BEK TV will host an exclusive prime time live statewide broadcast of a North Dakota U.S. Senate debate on Monday, October 3, from 7-9 p.m., located in Washburn’s Memorial Hall, 805 Main Avenue.
Confirmed candidates include Democrat Katrina Christiansen and Independent Rick Becker, who mounted a strong challenge to incumbent U.S. Senator John Hoeven, R-ND, at the latest state Republican convention, before switching his political affiliation to run in the general election as an Independent. Hoeven has declined an invitation to participate in the debate.
Debate moderators are former Bismarck Mayor Steve Bakken and former N.D. Senator Tyler Axness, from Fargo. Both men are experienced broadcasters and are prepared to ask questions that cover a range of important topics.
The Washburn Memorial Hall holds a maximum of 400 people. Audience members will be by invite only. Each candidate may invite 100 people of their choosing.
Each candidate will be allowed an opening and closing statement. Moderators will alternate by asking questions that pertain to current events and policy issues. Candidates will answer in a rotating pattern.
The debate can be watched live statewide through all local cable and satellite providers and over-the-air on KNDM-TV, KNDB-TV, and KRDK-TV. It also can be watched live online at https://www.bek.news/ or later in the archives at https://www.bek.news/programs.
