SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Minot State women’s soccer team opened their 2022 season with a dramatic finish to earn a 1-1 draw at Black Hills State on Monday at Ronnie Theisz Field.
The Beavers next play their home opener against No. 14-ranked Emporia State on Sunday at 1 p.m. at First Western Bank Field at Herb Parker Stadium.
Black Hills State (0-2-1) broke the scoreless tie when Emma Avery scored in the 50th minute on a penalty kick.
The Beavers responded to make it a 1-1 game on a penalty-kick goal from Hadlee Paxman in the 88th minute. The goal was the first of the collegiate career for Paxman.
The 1-1 score held to the end of the game.
“Our opponent played with good intensity and fight,” said MSU Head Coach T.J. Perez. “It was our first competitive game so it took us a second to get our legs and in the second half we made a good push at the end to get back in the game.”
