MINOT — Trinity Health Outpatient Nutrition Services will host a grocery store tour focusing on celiac disease and gluten intolerance Tuesday, May 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the main MarketPlace Foods, 1930 South Broadway.

The free tour, led by Clinical Dietitian Kayla Cole, RDN, LRD, is part of Trinity’s 2022 series of grocery tours and cooking classes. Space is limited and masks are encouraged.  Registration is required by calling 857-5268 by May 9.

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that can occur in genetically predisposed people where the ingestion of gluten leads to damage to the small intestine. Gluten intolerance is a distinct condition characterized by unpleasant symptoms that may occur after eating gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley.

It is estimated that celiac disease affects one in 100 people worldwide. Two and one-half million Americans are undiagnosed and are at risk for long-term health complications.
