CARPIO — The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a man died in a collision 11 miles south of Carpio Friday.
According to the NDHP, a 79-year-old Berthold man was driving a Nissan Pathfinder on Highway 52 around 3:20 p.m. when he left his lane, sideswiped a Ford Escape, overcorrected, and struck an oncoming semi hauling cattle. The Nissan came to rest on the west shoulder and caught on fire.
The semi came to rest partially in the west ditch and blocking the southbound lane of travel. The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of semi sustained minor injuries.
The portion of Highway 52 is temporarily closed.
