The Dakotan:
This is Outdoor Issues with Neil Roberts and North Dakota Game and Fish Outreach biologist Greg Gullickson.

Talking voting today on outdoor issues and Greg, it seems there is more and more severe weather as we get later into summer. Some advice today.

Greg Gullickson:
Just keep an eye to the sky would be my main advice whether in July and August, September or October any time that you're on the water. I got caught even in a snowstorm up at lake met a girl issue this winter and just keep an eye on the weather patterns, what they're doing. A lot of times, especially on the big water, if you go to let's take for example Van Hook or there's a hundred boat trailers and pickups parked. And when people need to get off the water in a hurry, it can cause an emergency. So just make sure to keep those things in mind. You know, if you do get down on the water, go to a shelter bay, protect yourself, protect those with you. And before you go, it's always good to have a floor plan that will let people know where you are, where you're going, and just keep people updated.

Neil Roberts:
All right. Good stuff Greg. Hey, more on being safe on the water when we come back.

Talking being safe on the water today on outdoor issues. And Greg, what do you do if you find yourself in a situation.

Greg Gullickson:
If it does become an emergency, call nine on one. They can ping your cell phone location. But also even on my phone, if I hit the little button on there that says talk to me, I can just simply say, where am I? And it'll actually show me where I am, wherever I'm located on the lake on that water body, you can send a screenshot. You can let other people know where you are. And by all means, you know, we've all been in those situations where you're an emergency at the boat ramp and help other people out and take your time.

Neil Roberts:
Good stuff, Greg. And that brings this report to a close. Until Next time. I'm Neil Roberts.
