The Dakotan:

This is Outdoor Issues with Neil Roberts and North Dakota Game and Fish Outreach Biologist Greg Gullickson.

Neil Roberts:

Aquatic nuisance species is again in the news, this time a preventative measure. And Greg, I guess making certain watercraft from out of staters have a tag this could only help, right?

Greg Gullickson:

Absolutely. So if you have friends or relatives or know people that are coming into North Dakota, any boaters with watercraft registered outside of the state of North Dakota need to have a 2022 aquatic nuisance species sticker. To purchase that current sticker, you need to go on the game and Fish Department website. That's the only place where you can get it. This is a state law that went through the legislature. There is a $15 fee for motorized watercraft, not license in North Dakota, and those run for a calendar year. The sticker must be displayed on the watercraft before it's used in North Dakota. In addition to that, there's some great fishing opportunity on the Red River. And so if it's an out-of-state boat that's launching on the North Dakota side, you still need to do that again. The quick and easy way to get it is on the Gaming Fish Department website, nd.gf.gov. So if you have non-residents bringing watercraft into North Dakota, just a gentle reminder, they do need that and a sticker.

Neil Roberts:

Good stuff, Greg. We'll have more on answers when we come back.

Neil Roberts:

Talking ANS today on Outdoor Issues. And Greg, we discussed nonresidents before the break, but North Dakotans also need to proceed with caution, right?

Greg Gullickson:

Yeah, absolutely. There's a lot of oh, I guess, ugly, creepy crawlies out there that can really do a lot of damage to our water bodies. So stay diligent, abide by those rules. To clean, drain and dry that watercraft, especially inspecting those docks, just making sure you're doing your part not to spread these aquatic nuisance species to other lakes and our water.

Neil Roberts:

All right. Good stuff, Greg. And that'll do it for this report. If you miss one, check us on the website, outdoorissues.com. Until next time. I'm Neil Roberts.
