Neil Roberts:
Welcome to another edition of Ag Issues. Our guest this week is NDSU cropping system specialist Leo Bartolon from the North Central Research Extension Center. And Leo. A lot more soybeans going in the ground this spring. A lot to do with the market. And as a result, Leo, some farmers growing soybeans for the first time. Out some advice.

Leo Bartolon:
Yeah, soybeans will increase a lot of this year, as you said. And for those who are not a common planter or soybean growers or first timers, just make sure to select a variety that meets your expectations in terms of maturity. Herbicide resistance and yield make sure to treat the seeds accordingly to protect it from the soil borne diseases. Due to Inoculation. Inoculations, very important for nitrogen supply and to guarantee all the nitrogen the soybeans needs and the other nutrients. Follow the soil test analysis to recommend.

Neil Roberts:
Good advice, Leo. Well, for more on soybeans when we come back.

Neil Roberts:
Talking soybeans today on issues with Leo Bartolon and Leo. Planting calibration is important here. What do you recommend?

Leo Bartolon:
Yes, a planter calibration is crucial for a good soybean plant. So farmers should pay attention on the planter to avoid double plants keeping plants. So voided spaces in the soil will take a lot of moisture in light and will not produce in yields. So soybean can tolerate a little bit double plans and skip, but make sure to uneven plants if they are more than 50% of the recommended soybean, do not compensate for a yield and you're going to lose money in yield.

Neil Roberts:
All right. Good stuff, Leo. Thanks for that. And that will conclude this edition. If you miss one, catch us on the website, AgIssues.com until next time. I'm Neil Roberts.
