(MINOT—Trinity Health has scheduled a “Stop the Bleed” training session for community members April 4 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Trinity Health Riverside, 1900 8th Avenue SE.

Stop the Bleed is a national initiative that empowers community members to take lifesaving action if quickly needed, regardless of the situation or cause of severe bleeding.

“Bleeding is the #1 cause of preventable death after an injury,” said Amber Emerson, Injury Prevention and Safe Kids Minot Coordinator. “The skill of being able to control bleeding until help arrives can save a life.”

Class participants learn the basics of stopping uncontrolled bleeding due to a car crash, a work incident, or everyday emergency. The one-hour class is free and open to the public. Participants may purchase a Stop the Bleed kit for $20 if they so choose.

RSVP is recommended by calling Trinity Health Trauma Services at 701-857-5700. The class may be rescheduled if fewer than five people register. Future Stop the Bleed classes are scheduled June 1, October 10 and December 5.
