Accomplice to Murder Trial Awaits Verdict

Final instructions given to jury 

Update: The jury did not reach a decision Monday and resumed deliberations at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

MINOT – Following closing arguments this morning, Judge Gary Lee sent the jury to the deliberation room in trial of Donald Lee Cooper, Jr.  shortly before 1 p.m.

Cooper is charged with four felony counts – AA felony Accomplice to Murder-Extreme Indifference; A felony Attempted Murder; C felony Reckless Endangerment; and C felony Terrorizing. 

Cooper is alleged to have been a participant in the death of Dominic Stevens during the early morning of January 12, 2020, in Minot. The case involved gunfire and a high-speed car chase through the northwest section of the city, culminating with a crash in front of the Minot State University dome. 

The trial began March 6. 

The Dakotan is monitoring this latest development and will have the jury’s decision as soon as it is available.
