Barnes County Injury Crash-ND Highway Patrol 

What: Injury Crash  

Where: Interstate 94 mm 274 (9 miles west of Sanborn, ND)  

When: 6:02 A.M. Central time  

Road Conditions: Scattered ice and frost  

Weather Conditions: Cloudy with dense fog  

Crash Involvement: Vehicle vs. Snowplow  

Type of Crash: Rear end sideswipe same direction, and rollover 

 Agencies Involved: North Dakota Highway Patrol, Sanborn Rural Fire Department, and Valley City Ambulance.  

Vehicle No. 1: 2017 Jeep Cherokee  

Driver No. 1: 18-year-old-male, Grand Forks, ND, Minor Injury 

Restraints: Seatbelt in use  

Charges: Care Required  

Vehicle No. 2: 2015 International Snowplow  

Driver No. 2: 32-year-old male, Valley City, ND, Not Injured  

Restraints: Seatbelt in use  

NARRATIVE: A North Dakota Department of Transportation snowplow was traveling eastbound in the left shoulder and driving lane. The snowplow operator was actively plowing the roadway and dispersing sand due to the road conditions. An 18-year-old male was traveling in the left lane and approached the snowplow from behind. The Jeep swerved left towards the median causing it to strike the rear driver side and left wing of the snowplow. The Jeep entered the median and overturned. The male driver was transported by Valley City ambulance to be treated for his injuries sustained in the crash. The snowplow operator was not injured. The crash is under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
