Minot State Invites Two Football Coaching Candidates to Campus

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State’s search for its next head football coach has moved into its final stages and Beaver Athletics is pleased to announce that two candidates have been scheduled for on-campus interview next week.  

On Tuesday, January 17, the Beavers welcome Chris Stutzriem to town to meet with members of the Minot State campus and local community. He will be available to meet the public and media at an open forum from 1-1:45 p.m. in the Convention Center on the 3rd floor of the Student Center on the Minot State campus.  

Currently the head coach at Rocky Mountain College for the past four seasons, Stutzriem led the Battlin’ Bears to the 2021 co-Frontier Conference title and was named 2021 Frontier Conference Coach of the Year.   

A quarterback who played at Wyoming, Indiana State, and Morningside (Iowa), he earned his bachelor's from Morningside in 2011, and his master's from William Penn in 2013 where he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant.  

Stutzriem also spent a season as an assistant at the University of South Dakota, was offensive coordinator at William Penn and at Rocky Mountain, and was offensive line coach and assistant head coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State prior to taking over the Rocky Mountain program in the winter of 2018.  

On Thursday, January 19, the Beavers welcome Ian Shields to town to meet with members of the Minot State campus and local community. He will be available to meet the public and media at an open forum from 1-1:45 p.m. in the Hoffman Auditorium, room 16 of Cyril Moore Hall on the Minot State campus.  

A 1994 graduate of Oregon State where he was a quarterback and also played baseball, Shields earned his master's from Oregon State in 1997 and began his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Beavers.  

Currently an offensive analyst for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) football program for the past three seasons, Shields formerly was the head coach for four seasons at Jacksonville University in Florida before the school ended its football program.  

Shields also spent two seasons as head coach at Lenoir-Rhyne University in North Carolina, and two seasons as head coach at Eastern Oregon University, along with five seasons as associated head coach and offensive coordinator at Army, three seasons as offensive coordinator at Saint Mary’s (Calif.) and three seasons as offensive coordinator at Eastern Oregon, two years at Cal Poly as offensive coordinator, and a season as offensive coordinator at Bucknell (Pa.).
