Hwy 1806 Fatality Crash in Morton County

North Dakota Highway Patrol 

What: Two vehicle head on crash  

Where: Hwy 1806 mm 49 (approximately 20 miles south of Mandan) When: January 12th, 2023 at appx. 9:25pm central time  

Road Conditions: Dry  

Weather Conditions: Clear  

Crash Involvement: 2 vehicles involved  

Type of Crash: Head on collision  

Agencies Involved: NDHP, Morton County Sheriff’s Office, Metro Ambulance  

Vehicle No. 1: 2001 Mercury Sable  

Driver No. 1: 24 year old female from Bismarck (FATAL)  

Restraints: Seatbelt not in use-Airbag deployed  

Charges: None  

Vehicle No. 2: 2017 Ford F150  

Driver No. 2: 69 year old female from Bismarck (Injured)  

Restraints: Seatbelt use unknown-Airbag deployed  

Charges: None  

Passenger No. 1: 49 Year old female from New Town (not injured) 

Restraints: Restraint use unknown-Airbag deployed  

NARRATIVE: The Mercury Sable was traveling northbound on Hwy 1806 near mm 49 when it crossed the centerline into the lane of the southbound Ford F150. The Sable struck the front left bumper of the F150 with its front left corner causing the Sable to come to a rest in the east ditch facing east and the F150 to come to a rest in the west ditch facing east. The driver of the striking vehicle (Sable) was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the F150 was transported to Sanford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  

Alcohol was a suspected factor in the crash which remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
