Minot State Womens Basketball Falls

Minnesota Duluth 77, Minot State 54  

MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State women's basketball team hit 8-of-18 attempts from three-point range, shooting 44.4 percent from deep, but couldn’t sink the visiting Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs at home Friday in NSIC action.  

The Beavers (5-5 overall, 1-3 NSIC) had two players score in double figures, led by Kate Head who had 13 points and two steals. Emily Srejma added 12 points off of the bench and Kennedy Harris added five points, four assists and two steals.  

The Minot State offense was impressive from three-point land, pouring in eight threes on 18 attempts. Head hit three treys for the Beavers in the contest.  

Minot State forced 14 Minnesota Duluth turnovers. The Beavers turned those takeaways into seven points on the other end of the floor. Breianna Smestad led the way individually with two steals.  

How It Happened  

Minot State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 23-11 at the end of the first quarter.  

Minnesota Duluth kept adding to that lead, building a 44-27 advantage before Minot State went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a three from Natasha Elliott, to narrow its deficit to 44-33, a score that would hold until halftime.  

Minot State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Beavers faced a 64-47 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Minot State knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 14 total points.  

Minot State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 77-54. Minot State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down one shot to account for three of its seven points.
