Minot State Women Drop Road Game

Mary 61, Minot Stats 44 

BISMARCK, N.D. -- The Minot State women's basketball team got a 16-point performance from the bench, but fell 61-44 to the Mary Marauders on the road Tuesday in NSIC action   

Vilborg Jonsdottir led the Beavers (5-4 overall, 1-2 NSIC) with four points, five assists, and three steals. Kate Head tacked on 12 points and Natasha Elliott chipped in as well with eight points and six rebounds. 

Led by Jonsdottir's three offensive rebounds, Minot State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 12 boards that resulted in four second-chance points. 

Minot State's defense held Mary to only 33.9 percent shooting from the field, including 22.2 percent from beyond the arc. 

How It Happened 

Minot State kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 17-16. 

The Beavers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 36-27 halftime deficit. 

Minot State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Beavers faced a 48-35 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Minot State played well near the basket, scoring six of its eight points in the paint in the third quarter. 

Mary kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 61-39 advantage before Minot State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Emily Srejma's layup, to shrink the deficit to 61-44 with 36 seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Minot State took advantage of three Mary turnovers in the quarter, scoring three points off of those takeaways.
