Semi-Truck and Train Collide 

What: Injury  

Where: 23rd St NE near intersection with 33rd Ave NE, 5 mi SE of Harvey  

When: 11:06 CDST on 10/12/2022  

Road Conditions: Good  

Weather Conditions: Cloudy/Windy  

Crash Involvement: Single vehicle with train  

Type of Crash: Angle  

Agencies Involved: Harvey Ambulance, Harvey Fire, Wells County Sheriff’s Office and North Dakota Highway Patrol.  

Vehicle No. 1: 2023 Volvo tractor pulling 2023 Wilson trailer (empty) Driver No. 1: Rodney Lund; 65 yo male; Annamoose, ND; serious injuries  

Restraints: Seatbelt.  

Charges: none  

NARRATIVE: A 2023 Volvo was westbound on 23rd St. N approaching a railroad intersection marked with stop signs. The 2023 Volvo failed to come to a complete stop at the intersection. The Volvo proceeded across the railroad tracks when a Canadian Pacific train was westbound and struck the semi-trailer on its driver’s side causing the truck tractor to rotate counterclockwise. The truck tractor then struck the left side of train with its driver’s side. The truck tractor came to final rest on the west side of the tracks facing east. The driver of the semi-truck was life-flighted by Sanford Air to Sanford in Bismarck ND. The driver sustained non-life threatening serious injuries.
