Two vehicles collide 

What: Fatality  

Where: US Highway 2 MM 215 approximately 3 miles east of Rugby When: 18:45 PM CDST on 10/6/2022  

Road Conditions: Good  

Weather Conditions: Sunny/Windy  

Crash Involvement: Vehicle/Vehicle  

Type of Crash: Right angle and rollover  

Agencies Involved: NDHP, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, Rugby PD, Rugby Ambulance  

Vehicle No. 1: 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD  

Driver No. 1: Juvenile; 15 yoa male; Rugby, ND; minor injuries Restraints: Seatbelt  

Charges: still under investigation  

Vehicle No. 2: 2004 Dodge Durango  

Driver No. 2: Adult Male; 53 yoa; Belvidere, NJ; fatal injuries  

Restraints: none  

Charges: N/A  

Passenger No. 1: Adult Female; 50 yoa; Walker, LA; serious injuries Restraints: seatbelt  

NARRATIVE: The Silverado had stopped at the intersection of 33rd Ave NE and US Highway 2 coming from an area near Rugby. The Silverado stopped at the stop sign and then proceeded through the intersection into the median and then began to cross US Highway 2 eastbound lanes. While the Silverado was southbound, a Durango was eastbound. The Durango was struck at a right angle and spun facing north into the south ditch of US Highway 2. The Durango began to roll in the south ditch where the driver was ejected and suffered fatal injuries. The female passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. The juvenile was taken to Heart of America Medical Center treated and released. The crash is still under investigation by the NDHP.
