MINOT – Immigrants expressed their reverence for the United States by leading its pledge of allegiance in Minot.

As part of his tradition of having people from the community lead the pledge before city council meetings, Mayor Tom Ross had two Air Force men lead the pledge of allegiance before the Minot city council meeting Tuesday.

“There’s a wonderful story with these two airmen from the Minot Air Force Base,” said Ross. “I was asked to participate in a Naturalization Ceremony last week and it was for these two gentlemen.”

Ross said what blew him away was that the two airmen, Amm Ahmadi and Asmad Peralta, took an oath to defend the country.

“They took an oath to take up arms and defend the country even before they were citizens of the United States,” said Ross.
