McKenzie County Pedestrian Crash  

What: Serious Injury  

Where: Hwy 23 mile marker 45 approximately 4 miles west of New Town, ND  

When: September 22, 2022, at approximately 0700 AM CST  

Road Conditions: Good  

Weather Conditions: Clear 

 Crash Involvement: Vehicle vs Pedestrian  

Agencies Involved: North Dakota Highway Patrol, Three Affiliated Tribes Police Department, Bureau of Indian Affairs, McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office, Newtown Ambulance  

Vehicle No. 1: 2002 Ford Expedition  

Driver No. 1: Male, 27 year old, Torreon, New Mexico - uninjured Restraints: Unknown  

Charges: Pending  

Pedestrian Hometown: New Town, ND Gender/Age: 9 year old male Injury: Serious life threatening injuries  

NARRATIVE: The Ford Expedition was traveling westbound on Hwy 23. A juvenile male was in the westbound lane. The Ford struck the juvenile. The Ford continued traveling westbound on Hwy 23. The vehicle was later located by McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office. The juvenile male was airlifted to Trinity Health in Minot. The juvenile male sustained serious life threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation by Three Affiliated Tribes Police Department and Bureau of Indian Affairs with the assistance of the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
