MINOT — The Minot Metros baseball team hosted West Fargo at Corbett Field for a doubleheader Friday. Both teams saw struggles and success in the twin bill as the Metros took game one 6-0, followed by West Fargo taking game two 13-0.

The Metos quickly took control in the first game as a double in the left-center field gap by first baseman Hyrum Maples plated Trey Stewart and Aidean Diehl. The Metros took advantage of West Fargo fielding errors in the second. A wild throw intended for second base on a stolen base attempt by Easton Patasuk ended up in center field and brought Cale Walstrom across. Teegan Strand scored later on a wild pitch to the backstop extending the Metros lead to four after two innings.

The Metros pushed their fifth run of the game across as Aidan Diehl singled to left to score Easton Panasuk from third base. Teegan Strand would score on an infield throwing error in the sixth.

“The boys did a great job of throwing strikes, getting ahead, and making them hit the pitch we wanted,” Metro’s Head Coach Dalton Cooper said. “Game two was the exact opposite. We fell behind, walked a lot of kids, hit a lot of kids. When you fall behind against a team like that, they sit fastball and they're going to crush baseballs.”

In game two West Fargo jumped out early on a pair of wild pitches by Metro’s Starter Eddie Fry that scored Landon Toughsrubin and Layton Tofland. Espen Wesby plated the other two runs in the first inning.

West Fargo wasn’t done as 6 runs came across in the second, aided by a Layton Tofland triple to right-center. A sacrifice fly to center by Kaleb Anderson scored Landon Toughsrubin in the fourth.

The Metros return to the field Tuesday, July 5 as they host the Bismarck Senators at Corbett Field at 5p.m.
