MINOT — Merchants in Minot are preparing for a positive economic bump. This weekend a baseball tournament is projected to bring in half a million dollars for Minot businesses.

The 2022 12U Cal Ripken State Tournament is scheduled for this weekend, July 14-17, where 12 teams of 12-year-old and under athletes, 180 kids total from across the state will be participating in the tournament, with family, friends, and fans watching.

Tonya Parker, director of team events and meetings for Visit Minot, said Minot's economy is projected to be impacted by over half a million dollars through indirect sales.

"Moms, dads, grandpas, grandmas, brothers, sisters will be coming," said Parker. "It's a big thing. They're staying in hotels and they're eating at restaurants, going to our stores. So it's good for the community."

Parker said Visit Minot has locked in other tournaments for the next few years.

"Next year in 2023 we have state gymnastics," said Parker. "And then we have regional wrestling in 2024. Lots of big things are coming our way."

More information on upcoming tournaments can be found on Visit Minot's website.
