MINOT — The Ward County Sheriff's Department says it has positively identified the body recovered from the Souris River on May 27 as 20-year-old missing person Ashlan Garcia.

His cause of death is still under investigation by the North Dakota Medical Examiner’s Office. Authorities say they do not suspect any foul play at this time.

Kayakers had spotted his remains in the river on May 27.

Garcia was reported missing by his family the week of April 18, and the Minot Police Department asked for public assistance to locate him on May 11.
