MINOT — The Minot Park District, along with the Magic City Girls Fast Pitch, announced new improvements to what has been known as the South Hill Complex and celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday.

Some of the improvements will include a new press box, better locker rooms, renovated bathrooms, concessions, and safety netting. It will also have a new name.

Ron Merritt, executive director of the Minot Park Board, said the Magic City Girls Fast Pitch raised money for the project, and Scheels also donated $250,000.

“It was always known as the South Hill Complex,” said Perry Olson, park board member. “Now it’s the Scheels Complex at South Hill. There was a really big capital campaign that the Girls Fast Pitch softball program, they raised a bunch of money, and then some park district money went into it as well to kind of do a big upgrade. It’s just going to kind of bring the complex into the century.”

Olson said that with four fields on the east side and four on the west, the press box will stand in between the two farthest to the west.

“The girls have already done so much fundraising,” said Olson.

The project is currently projected to cost around $1.8 million and is planned to be finished within the year, ready for the 2023 Spring Softball season.
