MINOT — Summer Collegiate baseball is back in Minot. The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs began their final season Friday with a shutout 9-0 win over the Red River Pilots from Grand Forks. It was an overall team win with lights out pitching and consistent offense.

The Sabre Dogs started out hot as starting pitcher Jacob Wesselmann tossed 3 perfect innings before giving up the first hit to the Pilots, finishing the night with eight scoreless innings on a pair of hits and eight strikeouts.

The Sabre Dogs didn’t wait long for the offense to kick in as a single and a double set the tone for a big inning in the first. Designated Hitter Ben Newbert capitalized on the opportunity crushing a ball over the left field fence for the first Home Run of the season. The third inning would see the Sabre Dogs add to the lead as hits from Jake Barlow and Chris Monroe each drove in a run to extend the lead to five.

The middle innings saw a battle of the pitchers as both teams combined for just three hits before the Sabre Dogs added four more in the eighth leading to the 9-0 score. The Pilots and the Sabre Dogs continue the weekend series at 6:35 p.m. Saturday at Corbett Field.

Final Line Score: Runs | Hits | Errors
Red River Pilots 0 | 2 | 2
Sabre Dogs 9 | 15 | 1
