MOHALL—Local farmers showed that despite a very dry and frustrating 2021 season they are still able to produce impressive yields and generously give back to their community.
Hefty Seed Company of Mohall held its annual Yield Contest awards banquet, and the results totaled an impressive $134,086.93 donated to local charitable causes. This past harvest, area farmers volunteered their best five acres of Hefty Brand Corn, Hefty Brand Soybeans, Wheat, or Invigor Canola to try for the highest yield. Participating area farmers then donated the production dollars from the five acres of crop to the local charity of their choice. The farmer with the highest yield in each division received a free one-year lease on a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 from Drive Chevrolet in Bottineau.
Farmers may participate in more than one crop division. Due to increased participation from area farmers, donations more than doubled from last year’s total of $61,848.49. The Hefty Yield Contest has been running for 5 years now, and farmers have donated a total of $296,695 to their local communities as a result.

Dakota Hope Clinic received donations from Paul and Nadia Smetana, Guy and Wendy Solemsaas, Wayne and Chrisanne Drangsholt, Levi Feland, Randy and Kharra Fyllesvold.

The Antler Outlaws received a donation from Drive Chevrolet of Bottineau in order to further support the contest.
The top yield pickup winners in each crop division are as follows: Steven Pfeifer (Hefty Soybeans), Leavitt Farms (Hefty Corn), Chase Holsten (AgriPro Wheat), and Randy Fyllesvold (Invigor Canola).
Adams said, “All of the credit goes to these farming families. They are truly leading by example. We look forward to next year’s awards banquet following a successful 2022 harvest.”
